3 Truths About Being a Social Media Manager

2/16/2017 02:00:00 pm

For those of you who might not know, I am one of two social media managers at Venture Media  - they are a media & publishing house responsible for magazines such as, the quarterly Travel News Namibia & Namibia Trade Directory to name few...

And it is not at all - what you may think it to be. Yes, we get to spend our entire 8 hour day hopping from one social media platform to the next. Yes, in essence, we get paid to tweet, retweet, like and share various content RELEVANT to our client's business objectives. But, I tell you, my friend, it is not all glitz and glam!

  1. We always have to be excited about something - it's a big no-no to curate a line for a clients social media without putting your best, most enthusiastic, and well-crafted foot forward. Now imagine doing that for 10 - 20 different social media accounts across various platforms. Gah! 😟
  2. It is far more time demanding than you think, an in-house social media manager is typically hired to handle one brand all day long, compared to what we do which is move from client to client. As one would imagine this can sometimes cause some complications and occasionally you'll mistakenly share your personal posts on a clients page and that can cost both your and your client some major heart palpitations.   😱🙅
  3. It's a graphic based industry - and if clients don't already have a database of solid quality images to use for posts; that becomes your job to create, source, edit and ensure the client's overall business vision is always maintained. 📷📹🔑

Despite all these when it comes to social media, many businesses will agree that they can't afford to not participate. Even though most could survive without it, they would eventually have to ask themselves, are their goals merely to survive or thrive in their industry?.
